Teamwork
Rodney and Chris’ Thoughts
Teamwork. We can’t do anything alone. There are often moments in business, sport and life where we’ll draw on the support of those around us.
Colleagues, teammates, family, friends as well as others who will assist with our growth and pursuit to achieve what we’re trying to.
Even solo athletes and sole traders have a team behind them they need to rely on.
When talking of his running, Rodney regularly refers to his support crew having a significant role in his challenges – his physio, his mobility coach, his recovery network and all those offering encouragement to push him to finish.
While he’s the one running, he’s not competing alone.
Likewise in business. Everyone’s role is important, from the administrative staff who ensure day to day tasks run efficiently through to the CEO and Board responsible for strategy, governance and sustained success.
There will be times when work needs to be shared, when someone can’t deliver to the expected standard, but the rest of the team will make up for it.
That’s the beauty of teamwork, when one needs help, someone else steps up to cover. Hard work is shared, everyone learns from failures together and success is celebrated as a group.
It’s a great feeling to be part of a passionate group of people working collectively hard together through challenges and adversity to eventually achieve a common goal.
Draw on those around you, draw on your teammates to succeed and celebrate the wins together.
Quotes to Remember
“It's not just about winning or losing, but to learn about teamwork, learn about sportsmanship, learn about discipline. The value of working together for a common goal. Have the emphasis on fundamentals, not just games.” — Erik Spoelstra, Head Coach of the Miami Heat NBA team.
"Individual commitment to a group effort, that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilisation work." – Vince Lombardi
