Run Rocket Run

Your team doesn't have a skills problem.

Performance coaching for your people, from a military veteran and now adaptive ultra endurance athlete who spent over two decades inside financial services.

Training didn't stick.
It was never going to.

Your people know what to do. On a good week they do it. On a hard week they do a shorter version of it, and by Thursday some of them are not doing it at all. That is not a knowledge gap. It is the difference between knowing the job and holding it when the week goes badly.

We coach the part that training events never reach: consistency, resilience and the habits that decide how your people turn up. The result is a team that delivers the same way on the bad weeks as the good ones, with better outcomes for the business and its customers.

A professional sports team doesn't train once and then play the year. There's no difference.

Step one

We start by looking, not pitching.

The first step is a conversation with you and your decision makers about where performance is leaking. From it you get a short one-page report on what we found: free insight, whether or not we go further. If the findings warrant it, the next step is the Fundamentals Workshop and the program.

How it works

Three ways to work with us. The workshop gives your team the framework. The program is what makes it hold when the quarter gets hard.

Where most start

The Fundamentals Workshop

One session

Your whole team in the room. The framework, taught in full.

  • Whole team workshop, printed workbook each
  • Access to the Enhance Your Performance Skool
  • Diagnostic and month zero baseline
  • Six on-site sessions
  • Accountability between sessions
  • Access for your decision makers
  • Mid-point review and written outcomes report
  • Individual leadership coaching
  • Quarterly leadership sessions
  • One tactical training experience
Recommended

The Enhancing Performance Program

Six months

The workshop, then six months of the work that makes it hold.

Everything in the workshop, plus:

  • Whole team workshop, printed workbook each
  • Access to the Enhance Your Performance Skool
  • Diagnostic and month zero baseline
  • Six on-site sessions
  • Accountability between sessions
  • Access for your decision makers
  • Mid-point review and written outcomes report
  • Individual leadership coaching
  • Quarterly leadership sessions
  • One tactical training experience
For the whole business

Program and leadership

Twelve months

The program, plus the leadership group coached alongside the team.

Everything in the program, plus:

  • Whole team workshop, printed workbook each
  • Access to the Enhance Your Performance Skool
  • Diagnostic and month zero baseline
  • Six on-site sessions
  • Accountability between sessions
  • Access for your decision makers
  • Mid-point review and written outcomes report
  • Individual leadership coaching
  • Quarterly leadership sessions
  • One tactical training experience

Individual sessions from the program also run as standalone workshops, each built on the Fundamentals front end. Keynotes and workshops

Investment is scoped to team size and shared in the first conversation.

We will not claim credit for your revenue. We measure behaviour against a month zero baseline and report on that.

The bad day protocol

Anyone can do the job on a good day. This four page guide gives you one complete protocol for the days that go badly, free. There is no pitch inside it.

The Enhancing Performance Program

Six months with your team, built for the bad weeks rather than the good ones. Anyone can run ten kilometres on a good day.

The condition we are treating

Your people know what to do. On a good week they do it. On a hard week they do a shorter version of it, and by Thursday some of them are not doing it at all.

Training events treat that as a knowledge gap. It is not. It is the difference between knowing the job and holding it when you are tired. Six months is the shortest honest answer: it takes a season to change how a team turns up.

The six month arc

  1. 1

    The diagnostic

Month zero. A conversation with your decision makers, a behaviour baseline across the team, a one-page report on what we found, and agreement on what we will report against at the end.

  2. 2

    The Fundamentals Workshop

Rodney with your whole team in the room, a printed workbook per person. The program starts from a shared language.

  3. 3

    Six on-site sessions

In your workplace, in the week the team is actually having.

    {{ s.desc }}

    {{ s.time }}
  4. 4

    Accountability sessions

Fortnightly. Each session takes one protocol and holds the team to it until the next one, with accountability on what happened since the last session and what is coming.

  5. 5

    Mid-point review

With you and your leadership group. What has moved, what has not, what we change for the back half. Your decision makers have access to us throughout, not just here.

  6. 6

    Written outcomes report

Behaviour measured against the month zero baseline, in writing, whatever it says.

Standalone sessions

The six sessions work together as a program and each also runs as a standalone workshop, fronted by the Fundamentals framework. One team might need resilience and burnout; another, effective planning and teamwork. The program is where the results compound.

Keynotes and workshops

Who it is for

A leader running a team that needs focus and discipline.

Project managers, account managers, customer service, IT, site teams, sales: the discipline is the same whatever the function. The top performers are fine. The middle of the team is where the year is won, and training events have not moved them.

A founder or managing director whose business tracks their personal energy.

When you are on, the business is on. That is a single point of failure and you already know it.

How we measure it

We will not claim credit for your revenue. Too many things move it. We baseline behaviour at month zero, measure the same things at month six, and report on that in writing.

"It wasn't the usual motivational fare."

Christa Malkin
General Manager, Aggregation, AFG

We hand-select the clients we work with each year.

The work only holds when the values match on both sides. If that sounds like your team, start the conversation.

Keynotes and workshops

Keynote, panel, Q and A or emcee, depending on what your room needs.

The conference keynote

45 to 60 minutes for a conference, a kick-off or a partner event. Rodney on stage. Optional panel or Q and A.

The sentence to send your bossAn adaptive ultra endurance athlete who spent two decades inside financial services, on why good people stop turning up, and what to do about it.

Standalone workshops

A single session with your team on one protocol from the program, built on the Fundamentals front end. Most teams that start here move to the program.

  • Resilience and how to avoid burnout

What resilience and burnout look like, and the small changes to daily habits that hold one off and build the other.

  • Effective planning and teamwork

A simple planning structure that works personally and professionally, and the teamwork that makes a plan hold.

  • Habits and goal setting

Building productive habits, removing friction and setting goals that connect to the mission.

  • Leadership and culture

Leading in a way that is effective and influential, and how culture is built through it.

  • Debrief and reflection

A structured debrief for the end of a goal or mission, so the learning carries into the next one.

The tactical training experience

An add-on to a keynote or workshop engagement. A physical team event built on the same idea as the coaching: the work that counts happens after it stops being fun. Run for leadership groups and full teams.

The keynote is the kick-off. The program is the season.

That line is Rodney's, and it is the whole business.

Rodney Cottam

Rodney served in the Australian Army with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, from 1999 to 2004, on operations in Australia and overseas. In 2004 a motor vehicle accident left him with a spinal injury, a fractured pelvis, broken ribs and a punctured lung. The nerve damage caused Brachial Plexus Palsy, which has left his left arm and hand completely paralysed. His military career was cut short when he was medically discharged from the Army.

After multiple ten-hour surgeries and years of rehabilitation, he made the decision his training had prepared him for: accept the new baseline and build from it. After learning to walk again, he started on an elliptical trainer. Then a treadmill, then the road, then into the mountains.

After rehab he spent more than twenty years in financial services, in funds management and then mortgage lending with one of Australia's leading non-bank lenders. In the Army and in business, he led and coached high performing teams.

He is now an adaptive ultra endurance athlete, racing 100 km, 100 mile and multi-day trail events around the world. He has also completed 350 km in five days, 500 km in 106 hours, 560 km in seven days, and 24 hour and 48 hour non-stop challenges. He holds multiple adaptive athlete ultra trail course records at 100 km and 100 mile events and has competed at the UTMB World Finals. Rodney is an ambassador for Invictus Australia.

"For me, resilience is facing something and going: I can get past this."

The habits and disciplines from the Army carried him through his corporate career and into ultra racing. Run Rocket Run is built on one observation: the thinking that gets a person through 48 hours on their feet is the thinking that gets a team through a hard quarter.

Rodney hosts The Enhanced Effort podcast and writes Monday Mindset, a weekly note on performance. Podcast and Monday Mindset

The elite team doctrine

A professional sports team doesn't train once and then play the year. It trains the week it plays, recovers the week after and reviews everything, for a whole season. A team at work is no different, and it is rarely treated that way. The program is built on the same idea: held over months, built around the bad weeks, with the review taken as seriously as the performance.

The challenges

Every year Rodney takes on an endurance challenge for Invictus Australia: 350 km through the Southern Highlands, 500 km down the coast, 560 km from Dubbo to Sydney, then 24 and 48 hours without stopping. Across those challenges he has raised over $100,000 for the charity. A percentage of Run Rocket Run's fees also goes to Invictus Australia on behalf of the clients we work with.

Field notes

Plan for the fourth knock-back

Rodney Cottam October 2026

Most plans are written for a good week. The workload is manageable, the team is rested and things land. Then the plan meets a Thursday.

After the fourth knock-back in a row, a hard shift or a week where nothing goes to plan, a person does a shorter version of the job. One less check, a faster finish, one less follow-up. None of it shows in a day. All of it shows in a quarter.

Endurance running teaches the same thing more bluntly. Anyone can run ten kilometres on a good day. The race is decided by what you do once it stops being fun.

So the useful question for a leader is not how to make the good weeks better. It is what your team does on the bad ones, and whether that holds when you are not in the room.

That is a performance problem, not a knowledge gap. It is where we start.
